Shopping with your dog?

Do you take your dog shopping with you when you go to the pet store? One of mine actually wants to do the shopping %26amp; picks things up!!! Like I was going shopping with him.lol

Shopping with your dog?
My rottie pup loves the pet store! He has learned the word Petco and runs to the car when I say it.

The only problem is that whenever he comes we end up spending a lot more then we planned to because my dog wants everything he sees!
Reply:Of course haha....I take my Jack Russell shopping all the time. She goes everywhere with me. She is obsessed with toys so she always picks out what she wants. I usually have to let her carry the toy around the store with her. She always knows where to get the treats too.
Reply:I do not take my dogs with me - While the sign out front "Leashed and Vaccinated Pets Welcome", there is no guarantee that other owners are abiding by the rule of vaccinations.

I'd rather not subject my dogs to the possibility of picking up something like Parvo.

Don't get my wrong, they get tons of treats and toys, they just don't pick them out (And I never pick anything from the lower part of the racks - Saw a boxer lift his leg once and pee all over the toys)
Reply:Many dogs enjoy choosing their own treats or toys at a pet store or dog show.
Reply:I can't take my dog shopping only if it's at Pet Supplies Plus that's where they allow dogs, cat, birds ect.
Reply:Sure do my yellow Lab goes every where with me. He likes to see the other dogs and socialize and pickout his own stuff. We go once a week and it is always a blast. He likes to go any where I go and he is funny because he knows how to get places and about two miles before the pet store he starts crying out of excitement.
Reply:Yup, my two kiddos (yorkies) go everywhere with me. They are rotten!
Reply:I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE AND LOVE! taking my dobies And mini pin anywhere! espeacially shopping. My big dobe loves to pick up toys he wants, and steals treats purpously when were not looking. And my mini pin, Lucy, loves to beat up all the other big dogs including hammer, even though shes only 6 pounds. I dont think I ever told you about her, shes 4 years old, and could fit in a very small shoe box. Shes a mini hammer! (I hate when people think minis and dobies are related, it bugs me!!!)
Reply:Generally not, unless the weather's been crappy and she hasn't socialized for a while. She doesn't pick her treats and toys like some dogs do... She is more interested in picking up scents=) I think she likes being surprised with gifts, anyway. In fact, I am convinced.
Reply:We take all our dogs at once and believe me it's a quiet a challenge. Luckily all three of them fit in a cart - 1 full size corgi and 2 mini corgis. Our first attempt at walking all three dogs in and a shopping cart was a mess. Leashes became tangled, one wants to sniff a dog, the other wants a treat, so now all of them ride inside the shopping cart now.
Reply:Yes, My boys go with me. They have a ball and the shop owner knows them by name. Also he has a beautiful black Lab named Henry that they love to play with they all run around the store. So eveytime we go each comes home with something they have picked up in their mouths.

Or something Louie (the store owner) has given them.

OH well! LOL
Reply:my dogs go every where w/me. If they can not go I usually do not go either. However, I live in Europe, and the only place my dogs can not go is to the grocery store. I feel like my dogs are a part of my family, and should be treated that way. When I go out to eat the waiters bring my dogs water and a raw meat. They sit beside my leg or under the table, and eat nicely from their bowls. If I visit a friend, and they do not allow dogs in their home, my dogs will stay outside in the garden with fresh water, and run around. I actually have a station wagon that I bought as the vehicle I drive my dogs in. It is dog safe, and keeps the other vehicle still looking nice, and smelling fresh. I love my dogs very much, and they are always welcomed to be beside me.
Reply:My german shepherd LOVES SHOPPING!!! I walk him down the aisles and let him pick out what he wants. Now that he is getting bigger I usualy take him straight to the kong section, It is much easier than picking the toys out myself. He knows instantly what he wants. (a couple weeks ago he picked out a jumbo jolly ball and I let him carry it around as I walked around.. By the time we made it to the register he had already torn it up.

I also take him with me to the mall, and nobody says anything because he behaves and they assume he is working. But he sometimes gets curious about things on the shelves...

It has also helped socialise him around people
Reply:My Chi has horrible fear aggression so she barks at everything - it's really not fun shopping with her. My JRT/Westie mix is very happy to pick out her own treats though! Bully Stix are her favorite!
Reply:I do, but sometimes he's a pain in the butt. He likes to take all the bones out of the boxes on the shelf and leave them on the floor. He does the same thing at home, he can't stand to see his bones in a toy bin.
Reply:my dogs love going tot he store with me. I enjoy taking them because it teaches them manners and socializes them to many different people and other dogs. They also have to learn a little self controle with all the smells and whatnot... it's great!

and if they are good, i do let them pick something from the chewie isle or a new ball from the bottom shelf on the toy isle.
Reply:I want to bring my dog to Petco the next time I get up there. I never have before though. The only problem is that my dog is really skittish and doesn't like the car because she thinks she is going to the vet. =p
Reply:i dont agree with dogs i nsuper stores and things in un hygenic, and for tieing pets up outside of shops i dont agree with that either, as the children these days ket the dog go.
