lately I find that I prefer shopping online for everything from beauty products to clothes to electronics.... am I causing the downfall of mall shopping? which I also enjoy...........

Internet shopping or mall shopping?
shopping at the mall.you get to feel the quality of what you're buying, try it on and tips from fellow shoppers as to whats in vogue and whats your best fit.
Reply:Online shopping avoid the crowd and easy to browse many things. You can try http://www.savezillas.com it provides many good coupons for lots of stores like macys, walmart, office depot, footlocker, dell for anything from ipod, laptop, halloween, shoes, perfumes... Report It

Bad at shopping?
Well, perhaps your feeling rushed. Try setting aside a whole day for shopping so you don't feel so constricted for time.

Also, try to shop alone, that's how I do it best! There's no one else there to say 'hurry up' or 'you take forever'.

Just call your mom when your done to pick you up

Hope I helped :)
Reply:haha, no problem, I love to help :)

I'm short too, but when people ask me if I'm lost I just reply with "No, are you?"

Anyways, add me to your contacts if you like. Happy shopping! Report It

Reply:Well, if you're asking about how to slim down on how much you buy, I can suggest some things since I'm the kind of person who only ever buys something 1/10 of the time I shop.

#1 make sure you buy quality items, especially in terms of material - that way they'll last longer and ensure that you're probably getting something that's more worth your money.

#2 ask yourself if you already have something awfully similar in your closet - I think sometimes people might have too much of the same thing, like I'll want to buy a skirt, but my friend'll tell me it looks like it's the same style as a lot of other skirts I have, so maybe trying for another kind might make a more varied closet

#3 decide whether you REALLY REALLY like it - oftentimes I'll pass something by, and it's just nice looking. I try it on, I sort of like it, but I'm not sure if I should get it. I think that doubt sometimes means you shouldn't get it because you're not 100% confident that that clothing is meant for you and that you totally like it.

#4 try not to spend too much - sometimes things can be quite pricey, and it might just be more worthwhile to wait 'til it goes on sale or something. I'm sure there's a way you can track it or check up on it to see when it'll be less pricey.

Recommended Shopping Cart for Fashion Online Shop.?

I'm trying to include an shopping cart for my e-commerce business - www.nevaehstyle.com

Any suggestion or recommendation for a free user friendly shopping cart? Thanks ^___^

Recommended Shopping Cart for Fashion Online Shop.?
There are a number of shopping carts out there, but depending on which payment processor you use (e.g. paypal, internetsecure, worldpay, etc.) it may or may not be compatible with it.

All of the free ones require you to do some programming.

Here are some:

Christmas shopping?

Ok Now last year I did the whole Day after Thanksgiving sale shopping..I was at walmart at like 4am..Will I ever do this again--NO WAY..What a mess. So my question is this...Who is gonna do the whole sale shopping thing? where will you go and how long will you shop all day or just a few hours? How much to you anticipate you will spend the day after Thanksgiving?

For those of you who go out..please be safe and courtious. Keep your purse closed and in front of you. Do not go alone!

Lots of answers I want to see how many people actually enjoy doing this.

Christmas shopping?
I won't be shopping I'll be working and I'm not looking forward to all the rudeness I'm sure I'll have to deal with.

Reply:this christmas i'm just going to make a whole load of handmade stuff and some cheap thoughtful gifts: some caramels for my parents (they're delish and fun to make), a poem for my partner, or maybe a painting although i'm not all that good at it, some little charms or hair stuff or makeup for my girlfriends. no i'm not doing the whole sale thing! i live in england anyway, so the only sales are after xmas!
Reply:it is kinda fun......but.......when you are trampled that's something else!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:I absolutely love doing this!!!! my cousins, aunts and uncles and i sleep over at someones house and have a big party the night before and then the next morning we leave at 4. we go to macys since there are A LOT of good sales and things there....doorbusters and stuff...shopping on black friday is something i wait for the whole year!! its sooo much fun.
Reply:No way I'm not going out there!!! Besides Grandma is making me give Tina bath, GOSH!
Reply:I`m done.
Reply:i wont be doing that kind of shopping, because i'm done getting all my christmas presents. yeah me!
Reply:Thankfully we don't have a sale day in the UK like you do........but we do have a very, very long run-in to Christmas where we are all bombarded with special Christmas offers, merry Yuletide advertising, etc...........and mince pies seem to arrive in the shops around October these days.

Christmas shopping in London is hideous. Crap and expensive parking, crowded and unreliable public transport, muggers lurking in dark corners to pinch your cash and prezzies, thousands of tourists (god bless 'em), and a massive punch up when you do manage to fight your way into a shop.

I did go to Manhattan for the true Christmas shopping experience a few years ago, and it was pretty much the same.......but the novelty of being in New York made it a lot better.

I have two tips for Christmas shopping:

1. The "Bah Humbug" approach - buy every single present on-line and get it delivered pre-wrapped. Costs a little more, but balances out against the cost of travel, parking, medical fees, etc.

2. The Exotic Christmas Market approach - we have started going to places like Brussels (Belgium), Cologne (Germany) etc where there are Christmas markets. You can buy some cheap old tat for very little money but, because its come from a different country, people will think you've gone to a great effort to buy them something special

Annoying shopping experience?

Just wanna know what kind of annoying shopping experience people have had. Like the saleswoman who keeps following you while your browsing and you just want to ask her to stop following you because you want to shop at your own pace and leisure. Or the salesperson who's really bugging you to buy the product she's promoting and you really dont want to but feel bad about rejecting. Any annoying shopping experience to share? I'm sure us ladies have plenty of stories like that!

Annoying shopping experience?
I find it more annoying when people bring their badly behaved kids along with them while they shop and I have to hear the child cry and throw little temper tantrums. The parents annoy me too, if they know their children are the bad, find someone to watch them, people want to shop in peace, not leave with a headache.
Reply:You must not have children, lucky for those kids. Some people are just an annoying as a crying child, waaaa! you stay home. Report It

Reply:My annoying shopping experience was when I went to Saks 5th Avenue. The sales people hung around like vultures ready for their prey. As soon as I pulled out my wallet, three other people were asking if they could help me. When I caught the attention of one sales person, another girl said she saw me first. I kept telling the sales person that helped me if I she would ring me up and the girl pushed her aside and started ringing the items.

I said, "I'm sorry, but you just lost a customer", and walked out the door.

Reply:my shopping experience really sucks. I live in a 'dead area'. Only 1 Wal-Mart and 1 Kroger and 1 Walgreens. Not much of a choice. And now this w-mart (which needs to move its location and expand) is re-modeling. No need to even go now. Hardly anything in there. Only necessities and in the larger quantities. I am sure it won't be much better when it is done.
Reply:Worst, or at least, most annoying...When your checking out and the sales clerk asks you if you want to apply for a store credit card. Even when you say NO, they keep asking, saying, Oh you can save this much, or you can get this rebate......If I had wanted to put it on their credit card, I would have used it and not paid with anything else..
Reply:in pacsun one time there was a sign that said all winter wear 50 percent off. so i was gonna get a sweater. i brought it to the register and they were like, sorry, its only all the big outdoor jackets. i was mad, because the sign did not specify...

Should shopping carts have horns on them? How about a rear view mirror?

I think they should. Maybe I'll use a portable boat horn. Every time I go shopping I always get behind someone who thinks they are the only person in the world. I go left, they go left, I go right, they go right. They also like to park their cart in front of something they don't buy that I need. I know they don't do it on purpose %26amp; they are just oblivious to what's going on around them. I try shopping at different times %26amp; it's the same thing every time. I thought my timing was off so I started skipping a little bit here %26amp; there %26amp; even that didn't help. I prayed %26amp; that didn't work. I sent someone else shopping %26amp; they screwed up my order. I had it delivered %26amp; they screwed up my order. I asked the managers at the stores to make the aisles wider %26amp; they refused. I'm at my wits end. Maybe I'll get one of those bicycle horns or a bicycle bell. Anybody got any ideas? I like the boat horn idea myself. I'll bet that would wake em up! I'm losing a lot of time in a years period.

Should shopping carts have horns on them? How about a rear view mirror?
Hilarious.

You are very patient. There's something about the supermarket that makes me want to ram my trolley into the backs of peoples ankles!

Especially when they meet someone they know and decide to have a long loud conversation in the middle of the aisle. And then when you say 'excuse me' they give you THAT look as if to say 'oh, what are you doing there? Cant you just go away? We are having a conversation here'.

It drives me crazy.

I think there should be advertisements on television about supermarket etiquette! Keep left (or right) depending what country you are in. Let people past. Dont block the aisle with the trolley while you are deciding which salsa to buy! These sorts of issues... need solving!

I love your boat horn idea though... maybe some flashing light 'indicators' too and brake lights, to let people know if you are going to stop and be there for a while!
Reply:I don't think it will go over but I TOTALLY agree w/you. Have thought of it several times myself.

What I usually do, for those who can hear, I sometimes have literally--after saying 'excuse me,' 'could I get by,' I've gone "Beep! Beep!"

Then, all of a sudden they move !!!
Reply:That would be kind of stupid
Reply:All I know is, I want some of what you're taking.
Reply:YES. My gosh, someone has finally come up with a solution to fix this problem! It's about time. I thought I was the only one that this bothered. They probably drive their cars the same exact way too. Horns, and a rear view mirror. I like it. But how would we get people to use them? First, they have to care that they are not the only one in the stores. These same people know where the horn is in their cars, but not the rear view mirror. Good luck in getting the companies who make the carts interested in your ideas.
Reply:You could borrow a policeman's uniform and carry a scanner that is on. Have this cohort make announcements from the patrol car in the parking lot every five minutes. Plan your aisle trips so when announcements of detainment and pursuit occur, it is on every other aisle that has you walking TOWARD the registers. In that case, everyone will move to the right to let a racing grocery cart policeman by to make a quick exit. Except you never exit. You just go down the next aisle cool and collected. This idea will get you out of the store 50% faster!

Online free shopping carts... which to use? What is the most secure? Which one can I use Scripts with?

Ok, so I am finally trying to take advantage of my online shopping carts installed by bluehost. The problem is, I don't know anything about shopping carts... yet. Seems I have a choice between Zen Cart, Agora, oSCommerce, and CubeCart... So which is the most secure? How about the easiest? What I would really like to do is design or download PHP, ASP, JavaScripts, to use with the shopping cart. Which is the best for that? How about overall with security being the priority? Will any one in particular, (maybe all), allow someone to pay with a credit card then after that is done be able to automatically retrieve an encrypted key and e-mail it to that person? Or e-mail the person with a website link so that they can download something? Wow, the shopping cart world is the most interesting, I could however use a little guidence.

Thanks,

Brian

Online free shopping carts... which to use? What is the most secure? Which one can I use Scripts with?
Nice question. Well I would say that Zen Cart and oScommerce are going to be the best options. They are both php based I believe, I know oscommerce is for sure. The problem with free carts is that they are developed via random developers, so there are quite a few people that know the internal workings. This becomes a problem when it comes to security. There are many holes with the free carts and that is why they are not good to use. You can find a lot of stuff on oscommerce about making it more secure, so all in all I would choose that one. You can setup everything via some php coding to get the settings you want!

Sunday shopping laws?

why is there this bizarre law that says i can go shopping on a sunday morning, but im not allowed to pay for my shopping till 11 oclock.i can go get a paper, use a supermarket or cafe,no problem, but certain shops have this wierd law imposed on them.are we mad?

Sunday shopping laws?
There are all sorts of Sunday laws. It goes back to the puritans. Car dealerships are closed on Sundays here.
Reply:yes the law is 11 in most big shops, it's the law now, because loads of people complained about, having to work longer hours on a Sunday, so the union got involved to change it, hope that helps, keep safe all the best
Reply:yeah it seems to be the big chain supermarkets that have this law, you allowed to "browse" their store if they are open before 11 but your not allowed to buy things. its really stupid, but i think the big players of the Supermarket world need to have rules like this so its fair trade.

it still seems weird though, ive always wondered this myself. lol.
Reply:Hi, It all depends on the cubic footing of the shop, so a large supermarket or electrical store can only open for 6 hours on a Sunday. I am glad this is so, i don't work Sundays now but i used to and customers forget that workers have families that they like to be with.
Reply:There is a trading law that depicts when shops are allowed to trade between. In some shops it is between 10am - 4pm, others it is between 11am-5pm.

I work in a supermarket and it allows us to open the doors at 9.30 am,even though we are not allowed to start serving untill 10am.

The first half hour is to allow for 'browsing'. Even though we can not stop people filling their trollies ready.
Reply:The rules are there to protect workers and family life.

They shouldn't be allowed to have customers in the store until 11 am.
Reply:Shops are only allowed to be open for a certain period of time on sundays. They normally chose from 11.30 till 4.30 but if they open at 11am then they can have what they call a browsing time, where you pick up what you want for half an hour and then pay when they are officially open, at 11.30.

If they let you pay before that then they would have to close at 4.00 instead of 4.30.
Reply:hey i think its mad that shops are open 24 hours a day, but have to close at 10pm on a saturday?

sundays should be the same as any other day of the week

sunday is the only regular day off i get, so i would like to get stuff done on that day, like shopping for example, i would like to get it done as early as possible, so i can spend the rest of the day doing something more productive with my time than queueing
Reply:Some shops are limited to the hours , they may open on a sunday

When a store opens , is down to them , as for not being able to pay for items untill 11 oclock , this is the store getting around the law , as they are inviting you to view before they open

Your friends left you when shopping together....!?

I was shopping with my friends. We were four persons. We walk together and see the things inside the shops. When we stopped at one of the shops and walked inside the things, suddenly I turned back and could not find my friends. When I walked out from the shop, there's nobody seen surronding. I called one of my friends hp and asked them where are they actually... They said they already at another shop....... I'm??????

It is supposed to be together while shopping since we had agreed that we hang out together rite...

Friends, please tell me what to do in future and what do you think about their behaviours?

I'd go shopping with Jack Hannah of the Columbus zoo.[USA]

He buys his outfits for his television shows in Australia. [I know this because my grandmother went on a vacation to look at animals in Australia with other zoo docents, years ago. He asked her to pick him up a couple outfits.] I'd go to Australia. with him and look at the animals. I would't buy anything. I have no money. I'd make artwork for presents I always do. I'd love to go to Australia and see the animals in the wild.

Personal Shopping Service??

I am only 15, but I want to start a personal shopping service kinda thing. I was thinking about going to retirement homes and doing grocery shopping/clothing shopping for the elderly. Has anyone done this and is it a good idea? Also, if I do start this, how much should I charge?

Personal Shopping Service??
How are you going to get around if you're not even old enough to drive?

Other than that, it sounds like a sweet idea. For the elderly though? Well typically they're on a fixed income, so it would have to be pretty reasonable for them to use your service. Like $5.

IPod Shopping?

I am currently shopping for an iPod. The thing is I don't know where to start. All I know is that I want one of those regular iPods that have always been around, with the little screen that you use to look at the songs. I don't care how much space it has, seeing as 30 GBs is already good enough. The problem is idk where to shop for one. What is the average price that a customer should pay for a brand new 30 GB iPod and where would be the best place to shop for it, whether it be online or at a store?

IPod Shopping?
they are all pretty much the same price no matter where you buy them when looking at the nano. 30 and 80 gb models. You can get them at Circuit City Walmart Target anywhere and the price will be very very close because they are pretty much in demand. I would not buy the store warranty but buy the extended warranty which you can buy direct from apple on line - if you have an apple store near you - go there and get everything!! LOVE the iPod - great product and great fun!!
Reply:uhh, you want a 30 GB?? i dont think they make them that small. i have a silver NANO, 200 gb. it has a screen, and a round scrolly thingy :). it was about 150 dollars. I got it at RadioShack, you can get them at the Apple store, Circuit City, any electronics place. If you want an Ipod mini, they do not have screens and have 100 gb, they're 75 dollars
Reply:By not getting an ipod. Trust me, I've been there, it will do nothing but get people to say 'ooh my friend has one just like it!' Then it will give you hardship from It's constant breaking that fixes itself so you can't return it. Then 3 days after it's warrenty, it will full out break not being able to be fixed or refunded. I'm not the only person this has happend to so seriously. Do NOT get an ipod!!! dont ask a current ipod owner about it either, cause if they havn't owned it long enough or are really lucky and got a good one they will try to defend them when really your chances of getting such a good ipod that wont break, are well... SLIM.

Plus, everyone has an ipod now. There are few people at my school that have something other than an ipod. There are alot of other mp3 players that have more accesories, or just plain music player if thats what you want. Do more shopping around the internet or at best buy or other stores before you decide with an ipod.

For instance, I have a Creative ZenV. It has alot of accesories, music, video, pictures, redording, radio, more than an ipod, and generally cheaper, smaller, better looking, and it's held up ALOT longer than my old ipod.

So form someone with expirience, think alittle longer okay?

Any ideas to attract local customers to use our shopping precinct rather than out of town big boy stores?

I have a childrens boutique in a small village type shopping precinct. There are many types of shops from butcher, baker, greengrocer, craft shop, locksmith, fresh fish, cafes, bookmakers, hairdressers, beauty salon, dry cleaners, shoe shop, photographic shop, pubs, charity shop, ladies fashion, hardware, pet shop, jewellers, clock repairer, dolls house shop, insurance broker, toy shop, chiropodist, newsagents, independant supermarket and co-op.

We are all getting together next week to discuss ways of improving customer footfall through our pedestranised precinct - rather than people using out of town stores. Also, ways of attracting people outside of the area. However, we have a low budget to spend. Any fresh ideas for me to take along to the meeting would be much appreciated.

Point to note - over the road - we also have post office, major banks, travel agents two top tourist attractions and a beach less than one mile away.

Any ideas to attract local customers to use our shopping precinct rather than out of town big boy stores?
I'll use bike stores as an example.

At a good bike shop, the bikes are much more expensive than at the box stores, but they are of MUCH higher quality. You will also likely find many services complementing your purchase, as well, such as bike fitting (muy importante), riding advice, and a real mechanic onsite.

This sort of service keeps the bike shops alive, when it's easy enough to 'save' money on a crap-mart bike that'll end up gathering dust in the garage.

There'll be plenty of added-value services you can imagine for any sort of business. It's just a matter of developing them to the extent that people will be attracted to the stores, and advertising, then charging a fair price instead of greedily going for the 'boutique' prices on everything.

Reply:Here's something that's worked for small merchant groups facing similar challenges:

Try creating a Local Merchant Discount Card. It would only be good at your GROUP of participating stores. One purchase at any of the member stores would make the shopper eligible for the card.

Card would be advertised in ALL participating store windows and could be promoted in other media as well. If oyu could enroll a local printer in the program you might then be able to get cards printed at a discount. Good Luck!
Reply:Yep, go naked.
Reply:Organise some attractions for adults and kids e.g. face painting and a few activities or have a few competitions to get people interested in coming to your stores. Invite a band and some dancers to come along and entertain for example. You would not need a huge amount of money if you used your imagination. Invite a radio station along and get them to broadcast from the area and that would generate some free advertising for all of the businesses in the area. Offer some incentives to purchase e.g a money of card giving a small discount. Good luck in generating new ideas. It is my experience that major banks are often prepared to invest some money in ventures like this if you approach them.

Have a contest. In a local paper - ask people to write why they love your stores over the big one's -the added benefit is you'll now for sure what to keep doing.

Or have a contest for who spends the most during a certain amount of time ...wins their purchase. You get the idea, everyone loves the chance to win!

When the weather is better - or is it now... Have an outdoor event. A fashion show using local cheerleaders...brings in parents..Can also get you free publicity from radio and news.

Have a treasure hunt. Once a month, every Thursday...pass out a list. The list contains items not found in stores - they'll have to socialize with people or take pictures of items or video hunt...Prizes to the winners. Invite church groups...

Have singles night. Every Thursday... If all the stores agree to do it - it builds a stronger sense of community. Plus it's fun. The craft store could have silly crafts geared towards helping strangers connect. The grocer could have champange samples, the jeweler "if you met during singles night get an additional 30% off"..........

Support a group like Project C.U.R.E. - let them hold a fundraiser in the parking lot. Let them promote and advertise. You give a percentage of sales during those promoted dates to them. Pick a BIG group.

Good Luck
Reply:If you can not compete on price, then great personal service is all you have that they don't. Advertise your friendly local face and convenient location, with coupons to attract first time customers.

Latino Shopping at Abercrombie & Fitch?

Hi. I want to go shopping to Abercrombie %26amp; Fitch but im latino and my accent is not so good (its not horrible either.)

1)Will the employees of anf be friendly and helpful?

2)How loud is the music really, because I've heard its REALLY loud.

3)Also, how is the shopping expierence there. Do ANF employees help you pick what you are going to buy or do they let you do it alone and just wait at the cash register? .

(Btw, im 15 and I'll go shopping to Slat Lake City,UT)

Latino Shopping at Abercrombie %26amp; Fitch?
Perhaps because I work at a Southern California A%26amp;F, my answers are different than other responders.

At our store, we almost always have an associate or manager who is fluent in Spanish. We have many Spanish-speaking customers, and we try to help them by making service available in Spanish.

Employees at A%26amp;F, like any retail store, are paid to be friendly and helpful-- these tactics are the only sensible way to sell clothing. I would recommend approaching the employee greeting you at the front, and telling them about your specific concerns. I'm sure they will be more than willing to help you find what you want.

The music is a preset level-- it's loud, but you don't have to yell to be heard. You can easily have a conversation with someone nearby at a normal level. Some stores really crank up the volume, but it's on a case-by-case basis. All the stores I've been to are at the preset.

As an employee, I've been taught to make myself available for any questions a customer might have. I greet customers coming into my room, and wait for any specific questions. I try not to hinder anyone's shopping experience. However, if anyone wants to try on clothes, get a different size/style, or get some personal shopping assistance, I help in any way I can. This is standard business for brand reps at A%26amp;F.

There should be at least one A%26amp;F associate in every room, plus at the fitting rooms and cash register, waiting to help you. Everyone is hired on the basis of being approachable and friendly, so don't be afraid to ask questions.

Unfortunately, not everyone is super nice and helpful. But I think by any large the people you'll meet will try to make a positive shopping experience for you. I've shopped at probably 2 dozen different A%26amp;F stores and I've yet to have an unpleasant memory in store.

Hope that helps!
Reply:why would you even want to shop there? develop a sense of style! wear something interesting, be a refreshing sight for sore eyes tired of looking at boring tee shirts and shorts all the time.
Reply:Lol. Just go in there...don't be nervous. They really dont care who goes in there, they will be nice regardless
Reply:When you walk in the store, one of the employees will say hi, and ask you if you need any help finding anything. So they are pretty friendly.

The music isn't THAT loud, well to me it isn't. but it depends on the person and the store. I usually shun out all the music and just enjoy my time browsing.

The employees will let you do it alone, but if you need help with sizes or anything, they will help.

hope this helps you =] and you can go to abercrombie %26amp; fitch, latino or not.
Reply:1) the employees are friendly to everyone!

2) The music IS really loud!

3) They will offer to help but i would suggest you would choose the clothes yourself bcuz everyone likes different things!
Reply:in the beginning when you first walk in through the doors they ask how you are doin and if you need help finding any stuff.they are not stuck up or anything, that's what people mostly think.i think thee music gives you a taste of the clothes its kinda loud but it's like that at Hollister%26amp;American eagle(if you've been there).well im latino and have a lotta curves so it's kinda hard to find clothes that fits me so they help me find what size fits me.hope this helps
Reply:1. they're sort of friendly, like they say hello to you when you walk in the door and thats pretty much it.

2. the music is pretty loud, not gonna lie.

3. the shopping experience is okay, but its not like AMAZING or anything. the people that work there dont really stand out as 'friendly' in my mind for some reason. the clothes are really cute though, but overpriced at times. sometimes someone will be like, "can i help you find something?" but not as often as you'd think.

hope this helped!
Reply:I'm white and my boyfriend is Latino and i want him to start wearing abercrombie and fitch i think it looks so hot.the employees there are really nice and they greet you when you walk in the store and when you leave.they are really helpful if you ask for stuff and there is a lot of employees in there so as your shopping they might stop and ask if you need help with anything.at the dressing rooms also there is a lot of help like if you need other sizes in something they will get it for you.yes the music is pretty loud it is the loudest music i have ever heard in a store besides hollister.it is a really good shopping experience and it even smells good.well have fun and good luck i hope i helped!!! :)
Reply:Do not go to Abercrombie and Fitch.....I would tell anybody this...they are bigoted, over-priced and the salespeople are blatant snobs and incredibly shallow!

Boring Christmas Shopping choices...?

Has anyone else noticed how 'same' and boring shopping for Christmas gifts has become?

Go to the local major Shopping centre and it's the same old stuff. K Mart, Big W, Noni B, Sussan, Katies, Kleins etc. I truly lament the loss of the old shopping strip where independent shop owners created a business and were able to stand up to the BIG Multi-Nationals.

Went to Mornington today and actually found a great little store with friendly, actually helpul, staff with such different little things to buy for that person who seems to have everything.

Thank God for independent retailers!

Who else suffers the - seen that - syndrome when looking for interesting items?

Boring Christmas Shopping choices...?
im with ya...i love in a smaller town so there are many boutiques that are different!!

All shops and shopping centre during CNY?

Hi,

I would like to know if all the shops and shopping will close during CNY ? Cos i am planning to go holiday in KL.

All shops and shopping centre during CNY?
Lowyat Plaza is the only shop in KL that will close during CNY.
Reply:most shopping centres in the Klang Valley (Kuala Lumpur %26amp; Petaling Jaya) are open throughout the Chinese New Year holidays but if the shops are operated by the Chinese themselves, then it will be closed ranging from the first day of Chinese New Year until almost one week or more.

if you are heading towards these places, be extra careful during the Chinese New Year period coz there will be a lot of foreigners who likes to visit these places where most local Malaysian are heading out of town or should i say balik kampung. in the past, their presences are not really welcomed coz they tend to create nuisances %26amp; disturbance %26amp; maybe lead to violent scenes.
Reply:During the CNY, mostly will close but not all..
Reply:some shops in malls will close.... not all just a few..
Reply:Nope, especially not in KL, since the majority of people there are Malays who don't celebrate CNY. But there will of course be less shops than usual.
Reply:some but mostly NOO bcos got DISCOUNT DISCOUNT and MORE DISCOUNT!!!!!!!!!!!!!YAY!!!!!!!
Reply:Yes, almost all businesses run by Chinese will be closed on the 1st day and 2nd day. However you still can go to some big shopping malls like KLCC, Times Square, Menara KL which will stay open.

Bear in mind, KL will be almost deserted during this period. The Chinese will be at their hometowns while the Malays will also go back to their kampungs. KL during this time will be swarmed by foreign workers especially the KLCC area.

Grocery Shopping or Men Shopping ?

I was told that the best men u find at the grocery store, not bars or night clubs. If a man goes grocery shopping, he is a family guy, cooks, cleans, settled, respect home values %26amp; so on. I think so cuz my bf is great %26amp; he is all of the above %26amp; he does the grocery shopping. What's ur opinion ?

Grocery Shopping or Men Shopping ?
a family man doesnt go to a smokey bar and gets drunk. your correct on your statement
Reply:The best place to meet someone is in a college classroom.

Reply:If a man goes grocery shopping, it can mean a few things:

1) he is hungry and the wife didn't get what he wanted

2) he his hungry and single

3) his wife asked him to go shopping and he is doing it to make her happy so he can get sex

4) he is having his buddy's over to watch a sporting event of some kind on TV

5) he is just pretending to buy groceries, but really checking out the women that are shopping
Reply:I think this is complete bullshit, because, seems to me, most people go to the grocery store at some point or another. If a guy is there shopping for his family, THEN HE HAS A FAMILY.
Reply:And that's why I've decided to have my groceries delivered to my place (when I get my own). I don't want to meet family men — I don't want a family, period.

CHRISTMAS SHOPPING? Do you buy more stuff for yourself or for others?

Everybody I know goes out to shop,

then comes home with more for

themselves or their house than they

do for their 'Christmas shopping list.'

Is that why we have all the

last minute shopping?

CHRISTMAS SHOPPING? Do you buy more stuff for yourself or for others?
I almost never shop for myself. I usually have a list for who I need to shop for and that's all I get. (Besides, I don't usually have any money left for myself - boohoo!)
Reply:I usually set out with a list and then find all these great things on special or unique items that i fall in love with, and end up buying myself heaps of things!! i'm terrible...especially if something is sooo cute...as things tend to be at xmas, they have very special things for sale!! :) But that's why i love xmas shopping coz i will get things for myself too!
Reply:I always buy more stuff for others than myself and my home at the holidays. Sometimes even putting off getting things that I don't absolutely need in order to buy gifts.
Reply:I buy more for others at Christmas time. I buy what I want or need thoughout the year for myself.
Reply:I shop for neither. I think it's ridiculous. Save your money. I just think it's crazy the way people go shopping and fight over who's the first one in the door etc.
Reply:i would buy more for others than myself (but thats me)
Reply:i get more for others. my niece is the one who gets more from us. we spoil her with everything.

she sees something, asks for it, and then we get it for her.
Reply:yeah i buy more stuff for others, the more you give the more you get so it all balances out in the end

Cable shopping channel?

What is cable shopping channel?

This phrase is from the english textbook. I thought it is like home shopping including online and tv, but there is this "helping" picture depicting someone with the shopping catalogue and the phone. What do you think?

Cable shopping channel?
It is a channel on cable TV which is totally devoted to selling you stuff. You see the items on the TV screen and you telephone the people to purchase the items you see.

I'm not sure why your "helping picture" doesn't show a television because that is the major factor here.

Crosswalks in Shopping Centers?

Are cars legally supposed to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks in a shopping center (private property)? I almost was run down in one, and when I yelled at the idiot, he said crosswalks don't count in a shopping center!

What about traffic signs in a shopping center, like STOP, or speed limits? Can the police enforce them if they are WITHIN the shopping center? This doesn't include ones that face onto a real street.

Crosswalks in Shopping Centers?
It would be nice if they were legal however there is nothing that can be enforced as far as crosswalks on private property.

The same goes for stop signs and speed limits unless they are for a residential facility, ie a complex of apartments that has the proper signs posted indicating speed limits and stop signs.

If you were struck by a vehicle on private property because you stepped out in front of the vehicle without due care it would be your fault. However if the driver had more than adequate space and time to see you it would be the drivers fault.
Reply:You are supose to stop every where for peds
Reply:Yes %26amp; Yes!!!!
Reply:Crosswalks count and if he hit you it would be his fault.
Reply:Common courtesy takes over sometimes. Boobs exist everywhere tho. Take down the plate number of the violator. Most shopping malls have security. Tell them next time.
Reply:The highway traffic acts are not in force on private properties.Accidental incidents involving autos and pedestrians are a civil matter. Local by-laws concerning such things as fire lanes can be enforced by police agencies.

Exception)In many jurisdictions not paying heed to the stop sign you encounter when exiting the property can lead to a 'failing to stop' charge.

For their own well being neither drivers nor pedestrians should act like they own the place when proceeding through parking lots. You only have one life to live.
Reply:Cross walks count everywhere....you're right he was an idiot.

However you can't assume they're going to stop because you can end up flattened.
Reply:Pedestrians always have the right of way.

Sometimes they walk in the middle of the parking lot drive way and it drives me nuts, like they are just asking to be run down.

At a store in a nearby town several people have been hit walking across crosswalks in front of the store.

Most malls have their own security to watch the parking lots.

I think police can enforce the signs, they should do better enforcing the handicap parking too.
Reply:Yes, they should be binding. I just hope you pay attention before you go, even in a cross walk. Don't be so quick to label someone else an idiot if you started to go just as they were coming.

Mystery shopping? Can you tell me more?

I am interested in doing this part-time; knowing that I won't really make money. Are there mystery shopping companies other than those that specialize in restaurant shops? How can I tell a good mystery shop company from a bad one? Please share your experiences.

Mystery shopping? Can you tell me more?
I did mystery shopping for about 3 years, but I stopped over 2 years ago, so I am sorry to report I don't remember the names of the better companies I worked for.

I never did a restaurant shop, although they were offered to me. I am not certain, but I think companies share lists of shoppers, because I would get emails with offers of work from companies I had never heard of before. The reason I never did a restaurant shop is because the ones I was offered only paid for the food, they didn't pay you for doing the actual shop.

The companies I worked for all paid for the shop, and then paid reimbursement for any items I was required to buy, and I think that's one way you can tell a good company from a bad one. Here are some other observations.

1. A good company, as stated above, pays you for your time, and they reimburse any charges such as parking, or purchases that you are asked to make. Also, if there are big charges, they handle those themselves. I worked for one company that did the shops for a lot of the snack bars, magazine stands, and little shops at our airport. Since it was after 9/11, and you had to have a boarding pass to get past security, I had to have an airport security screening which included being fingerprinted and having a comprehensive background check. The cost for that was $250, and I didn't pay a penny for it. The company arranged it all in advance, and I just went and filled out the papers, gave my fingerprints, and had my picture taken.

2. They keep in touch with you, and know who you are. My contacts at various companies always knew my name, knew which shops I had done recently, and which shops I was good at.

3. The work is steady. By steady I mean at least several offers a month, usually averaging out to one per week.

4. If there's an emergency shop, meaning that the person who was supposed to do it suddenly couldn't, and you got the offer at the last minute, they kick in extra money for the inconvenience.

5. They never, ever charge you money up front for anything. They don't ask you to pay $25 for access to the database of shops, etc.

When I was shopping, I found several websites that allowed you to apply to more than one company at a time. I bit the bullet, as the applications were quite long, and over a period of a few days I applied at about 15 different companies. Out of those 15 applications, I received jobs from about 12 different companies. I decided it is best to work for as many companies as possible, as that keeps you busier and brings in more money. Usually, when a job is offered, they give you a window in which to do it, so I would just schedule all my shops for one day, and go out and do 4 or 5 on one day, and that would be it for the week. You might try searching for similar sites.

I hope this is of use to you. Good luck! Mystery shopping can be kind of fun.
Reply:i agree with the first girl who answered
Reply:If I told you more, it wouldn't be a mystery...
Reply:haha I've heard of those, try going to lol http://linkachi.com/?4f , enter with your zip code, and then hit "careers" on the left side of the page, who knows you might get the job..

Thialand shopping?Anyone been? What was it liked. Asked before but no response so PLEASE!?

I am going to thialand in the summer to stay with my dad. I have never been befor and am very excited about the shopping as everyone, including my mother have told me of how amazing it is. I am from England and love abercrombie but it is a bit expensive and theer is no store here so i can only get it from the internet. I love fake goods and have many replica handbags but was wandering if there is alot of replica ambercrombie, I do know that they have it there but is there alot? Also I know that the shopping is cheap. How much would a replica handbag cost me roughly? Do they have fake tiffany? As I have been searching for it cheap? Do you have any? How much did it cost? What is the shopping like? Are there stalls on the streets and everywhere? Please tell me I would like to get an idea. And does anyone know the exchange rate for sterling to Thai money( I don't know what currency they use.) I know this is alot of questions, please answer even if you only know a few. THANKYOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go shopping with Dad?

I've seen so many young girls shopping with their dad at my clothing store. I was just wondering how does it feel? And do you like shopping with your mom or your dad better, and why? [My dad died when I was 7; mom remarried when I was 19 and my stepdad is a very serious person, not a fun one to shop around with.]

Go shopping with Dad?
I went to Target and I saw this young girl there shopping for bras with her DAD!

I was like "wow."

Well, I go grocery shopping with my dad.

But he's more of the serious type.

Not the outgoing, funny type of dad.

I don't think it would be a problem shopping with your father.

But if you want fashion advice and bra shopping kinda person rather than a tag-along person, you'd be best to go with your mom.

And if you don't have a mom to go shopping with, i'm sure you're aunt would love to take you shopping.

And if you don't have an aunt, then your friends would be a great substitute.
Reply:My dad is a business tycoon and doesn't have time for "silly nonsense". He gets people to do all of his shopping, I think he went shopping with me once for shoes and he had me pick them out ahead of time...two pairs of them in my size. We went to the store, grabbed them and left.

I prefer my mom to shop with me because she loves fashion, she understands what matches and what doesn't. My mom spends half a million dollars a year on clothing and drives my dad nuts.

I'm 12, so I guess I'm the right age your looking for. I'm just sharing my opinion and MY DAD IS NOT MEANT TO SHOP is all I have to say on the matter :]

xoxo Catherine
Reply:When I was younger I always perfer my dad to take me shopping. My dad would just stand on the side while I be shopping for this and that, never looking at the price like mom would do. He would ask me isn't you finish yet I would say no I got to get 2 more things, he would say you driving me crazy. But Dad let me have my way. Mom would be so mad at me telling me she don't have no more money. What could I have say when I was daddy little spoil girl.
Reply:Shopping just seems to be a mom kind of thing. My mom always to seemed to be a better shopper. People have certain relationships with they're parents but shopping just seems to be a motherly relationship.
Reply:I never went shopping with my Dad, not for clothes...only my mom. I can't even imagine shopping for clothes with my dad.
Reply:Sorry your Dad is not with you to take you shopping, and your loss of him is still hard on you. However, you must give your stepdad a chance, perhaps he would go shopping with you if he knew how much it means to you. Why won't you Mom go shopping with you? That can be a lot of fun too. You should find some friends to shop with and take the pressure off of yourself that way.
Reply:when i go shopping with my dad he shows me outfits that he finds and if i like them he buys them because he also likes them. My dad jokes around alot and thinks it is funny to buy a lot of things and see my mom's exspresion. I like to go shopping with my dad.
Reply:shopping with my dad is great...he used to buy for me what ever i wanted to buy rather than my mom....
Reply:To bad you do not know a lot about a man your mother loves

Maybe you should try to find something that you both like to do togethe, he may not like to shop, and you do not like something he likes to do

Find some comfort zone, and establish a relationship with him, it would make your mother v. happy and give you a father you lost a long time ago

Maybe he likes to shop for something besides clothes
Reply:i don't remember when was the last time i had my dad gone shopping with me, but i guess may be i was very little when this happened. my dad is a doctor and he's always too much busy with people that he can hardly spend time with his family. i've been going to shop with my mom, sis, friends or alone for a long long time. dad has got us (his daughters) and my mom to shop for him.

i don't have any hard feeling for dad coz i know he's just very busy and he also misses the old times a lot, and he's happy with whatever we get for him. i don't get a chance to go shopping with dad but i think if i got it, it must be a memorable one coz dad is so friendly with me and its all fun being with him.

sometimes i prefer mom to go with me when...u know...we have to buy some stuff for girls only. mom is the best guide at these.
Reply:well i feel really close to my dad i wouldnt mind shopping with him. i dont live with my mom so yeah...

i think it depends on the bond.

its cool but a bit weird cuz hes a guy and doesnt understand the patients of shopping but at least someone is there and your not shopping alone.
Reply:My daughters love it. Number 1 thing is that they can bat those puppy-dog eyes at Daddy and he gets them what they want, I'm a little stricter about the rules. They also love to go with their step-father, surprised me too. They will ask him if an outfit looks okay before they ask me, and take his opinion over mine 99% of the time. It is also great bonding time for them. Their Dad and Step-Dad also take the time to tell them why they think some clothing is inappropriate, from a male's point of view, how some clothes may make them be seen as something they are not.
Reply:I'm So sorry for your loss. But to answer your question i like to shop with both of my parents but i think my dad the most because he buys me anything that i want and don't have to beg my mom i have to ask more than once but will eventually give in . but i love shopping with both of them except when i go with my mom we have more to talk about and we do all types of funny stuff but my dad is more serious the only thing we talk about is school, weather and what ever pops up in my head to say to him that i think will be appropriate
Reply:your mom is better because she wont make you get stuff that you dont want to get
Reply:My dad hated shopping. If he "had" to go, he put ridiculous price limits on things and went out in front of the stores and leaned on the parking meters until my mom and I were done. He never approved of anything we bought. He saw no need to buy clothes because you could make them. I was in my 20's when I asked him to buy me a dress (the only time in my life I asked him for that). He actually did buy it, but the expression on his face when I asked looked like I had just poured ice water down his back.
Reply:Most Dads do not like to go shopping with their teenage daughters so it is a treat when you have the privilege of your Dad taking enough interest in you that he wants to help select your clothes.
Reply:I shopped with my mom til I was in high school, then I shopped with my friends, cousins or sisters.

My mom always had really good taste so she got me nice stuff. My dad was clueless about fashion, except if our jeans were too tight or or skirts too short (then he would grumble disapprovingly - but that was his job as a dad). We shopped for Dad's presents to Mom, because he didn't want to just give her money, but he had no idea what to pick out that she might like (mom was very picky).
Reply:I'm 15, and I prefer to shop with my mother...but if I had a choice, I would go with my friends. With my mother, she doesn't like to shop so she wants me to hurry up alot. She'll buy me whatver I want or need just as long as it isn't risque`. My friends shop just as much as I do...so they really don't care how long I take. I don't live with my dad, so we don't shop that much. I wouldn't want to shop with him anyways becuase nowadays there are lots of cute guys walking around and if I'm with my dad, I can't be with them. =]
Reply:yes every christmas and anniversary iwould go with dad and hlep him buy something for mom. yes i enjoyed it. i am sorry you have not had the opportunity its great and leaves good memoires.

When shopping online is it better to shop in the am?

or pm? is there any difference? do you like shopping for clothes cosmetics or anything? i like shopping at nite, just wondered if there is a cost difference

When shopping online is it better to shop in the am?
I dont think it really matters since the internet is global, and time zones are different. I guess as long as its convenient for you to shop, then its good. I personally shop in any time of the day. Be careful with the scams! Some people like using a seperate credit card strickly for online use, so they dont get their whole bank account stripped from them. :)
Reply:Its the same price, but if you shop in the am,there would be less people and traffic for you.So in the long run its better.
Reply:I don't shop online. Sorry.

My shopping budget is always $0....How can I incorporate the latest trends into my boring wardrobe?

I am a college student (Junior) who once was declared "best-dressed" in high school. Well, my parents slowly cut me off and I work off and on to support myself. After I pay bills, get groceries, and get gas, I don't have enough money to even look at the mall! I go shopping every blue moon and I'm on tight budget so I usually get the simple cheap blue jeans, white shirts, and black slip-ons. I know shopping shouldn't be on my mind cause I'm a student, but I would like to sometimes wear the latest fashions while going to class and walking around campus. I'm 5'7, 132 pounds with a nice shape, and I'm tired of wearing t-shirts, jeans, and clogs. I will have a little money to go shopping in a couple of weeks ($ 150) :(

My shopping budget is always $0....How can I incorporate the latest trends into my boring wardrobe?
Since you're on a tight budget, make sure you're not wasting money on ridiculous styles that are bound to go out in a month or two. Try purchasing a few items that you really like that have been around a while so they won't be out of style, I guess. Go for a few pretty accessories or whatever... There's a lot to choose from...

Reply:id recommend thrift shops. sense you have a tight budget. i mean thrift shops, not good will or the salvation army.and the good thing about thrift shops, is alot of times they were expensive clothes at one time, now they are just used. and thrift shops never except clothes that smell or have stains. as apposed to target, or Ross, where even though the clothes are brand new, the quality is questionable. if you go to a regular thrift shop, they have usually cool vintage and trendy clothes for really really cheap. like shirts for $5, and vintage clothes are pretty popular right now anyways. if you look in the news paper, or the yellow pages, it should saw where there is one close, or in your area.
Reply:Target has cute stuff and so does Ross. No one has to know you got it from there if you don't want them to. Everything there is totally affordable too!
Reply:ross or mervyns has really cute, but cheap clothes.

and if you have a good eye for fashion, you can probably shop at goodwill for a vintage style.

Reply:shop in stores that have the type of "trendy clothes" but for a cheaper price even if there knockoffs its still stylish try laring different colours and different jeans ie skinny leg, striaght leg etc.

Do You feel guilty for shopping at Walmart?

I have a lot of friends who refuse to shop there, mainly because they are a big corporation that ends up putting a lot of the little guys out of business by always having the lowest price. Others don't like the way they pay so little to their workers. Personally, I shop there because I can literally save about 35% on my grocery bills by choosing them over the local grocers. Inflation has not kept up with the standards of living, and by shopping there, I get excellent value for my HARD EARNED money -- and I feel that if the workers there don't like getting paid low wages, they should look elsewhere for a job. It is still a free country, so if you object, go try getting a job somewhere else that pays better, don't blame Walmart for your lack of education or marketability. Just my opinion, I am not considered a "liberal" person, but it ticks me off to hear people low rating those who shop there. Some of us shop there because we can't AFFORD to shop at the other places!!!!

Do You feel guilty for shopping at Walmart?
It's your money, you can shop wherever you like.

I just hope that you're happy to cough up the extra money in the end, because as soon as they manage to put their competition out of business in your area, they'll jack up their prices to make the old competition look generous by comparison.

That's the part they don't tell you while you're jumping on the "screw the competition" bandwagon. They are ARTIFICIALLY lowering the prices in a given store, based on the local competition (subsidized by the regular prices in 90% of their other stores), with the express purpose of putting their competition out of business. Once they do, there will no longer be a reason to subsidize that store and you'll start seeing prices rise.

Frankly, I'm surprised that the government hasn't come after them for price-fixing.

But hey, that's not YOUR problem, right?
Reply:Well, it's your money and your right to spend it where you want, but it's not only small stores that are going under because of them, it's also U.S. manufacturers, so don't come back and whine when your job and your "hard earned money" goes over seas. Report It

Reply:Up until a few years ago I didn't shop the cut rate places but then I started shopping K-mart and when they closed I began at Walmart. I think Walmart is great. I see the same clothes in there that are in the catalogs (except if I shop Walmart I don't have to pay shipping and handling). I usually use a credit card when I shop at Walmart but I figure that some day the prices will go up and I won't be able to get all I need then, and I'm willing to pay interest just to get it now. I don't wear out my clothes so I figure I'll make out. If I can buy material there and sew something for myself I still make out. I haven't purchased food there yet, but, thanks for the tip.
Reply:i could give a rats azz about them putting the little guy out of business, the little guy needs to adapt to the needs of consumers or face the end. I do feel a little bad for the way walmarts employees get shorted on healthcare, but like you said its their choice to work there or not. I have found myself going to target a lot more recently though, i find it a much nicer store and they treat their employees very well.
Reply:yes, i do feel guilty about shopping there, for all the reasons you've listed... however, Costco often times matches or beats the walmart prices (for example: my iPod video costed less at Costco) and they do so much for the community (at least, where i live)

..... i also recieved an email a while ago discussing the cost of medication in pharmicies.... it said that there were many large companies that raised the prices so much that the made over 3,000% (three thousand) profit...... but at the end of the email it said that Costco sells them for much less (i don't remember the exact numbers, but i think it was only like 5-10% profit or something like that?)

anyway, i do shop at walmart, but, like i said before, Costco can often beat them in prices, and almost always (90+% of the time) beats them in quality.
Reply:Great businesses--those that save you significant time, money or energy and/or offer a very valuable product/service--always put other companies out of business. That's capitalism. It's that competition that drives people (companies) to constantly innovate, evolve, and create/demand better products and services. And as a society we're much better off for it.

And as far as pay goes, Wal Mart is like McDonald's and dozens of other companies just like them--you're not supposed to make a career out of working there (unless you're in upper management or an exec). They provide solid jobs and good experience for young, inexperienced workers. They expect to have high turnover and re-hire a whole new workforce every few years. No one expects you to be able to work as a cashier at Wal Mart and live rich. Just like no one expects you to work at any other minimum wage job and live rich--but you don't here anyone bashing any other companies with a large low-paid workforce (and there are thousands--think of every grocery store, pharmacy, restaurant, factory, etc). The big successful companies are always the targets though. Like you deserve a $80,000 salary and benefits just for showing up and being a greeter/cashier at WalMart. Sorry, but that just isn't realistic.

Plus Wal Mart does good things too. Them promoting halogen light bulbs for one year is causing the equivalent of taking 1,000,000 cars off the road forever. Them switching to solar power and hybrid trucks can single-handedly change the environment for the better--overnight. It's an incredible amount of power, but they're being held accountable by the public and using it for good more and more.

If they were really a horrible employer, no one would work there. If they had terrible service/products, no one would shop there.
Reply:I don't shop there because I don't like a lot of their corporate decisions. I am all for a free market, but they manipulate their suppliers, then cause companies to close or go overseas because Wal-Mart insists on paying less for the same products. What really bothers me is the same people who shop at Wal Mart complaining when their jobs are shipped overseas. There is a cause and effect in the economy that people are overlooking, and it's sad.
Reply:HeII no I don't feel guilty. It is called free enterprise. Only an idiot pays more for something than they have to. Or, as my brother would say, your friends have more dollars than sense.

Ref: Salary. 74 or 76 Percent of all management jobs come right off the floor at Walmart. They promote from within. Entry level jobs are just that, entry level. If you plan to be a greeter for the rest of your life, that is your problem, not the problem of your employer.

You are not a liberal on this issue. I don't know about others but on this one you are a full blooded conservative.

Sam Walton saw a way to make money by providing a service. Where is the fvcking crime??? No they aren't unionized, I have never been a member of a union and since I am retired, I guess I never will be. Poor me!!!

Tell your friends to go ahead and spend their money as they see fit, it is their money just as your money is yours to spend as you like. I have never owned a Japanese Automobile and never plan to but that is my choice, my money and I don't do it for my reasons.

Gee, do you think you may have hit a nerve??? OK, let's call it a hot button and let it go at that.

Have a great evening...
Reply:all I know is that walmart is evil, they throw their weight around and they won't stop until all the honest family owned small businesses go under. You are all brainwashed if you don't see something that is right in front of your eyes. Until you're effected personally it means nothing to you. My parent's store is currently endangered by a $uper walmart opening in the next town.
Reply:Unfortunately, there is a growing problem in America, that they are "owed" something. Through Walmart's success, they have put MORE PEOPLE TO WORK IN AMERICA THAN ANY OTHER RETAILER! Your right, the employee has a choice. Most likely they would complain about anything.

I am not liberal either, nor am I a liberal basher either. However, some of their Politicians and "Entitlement" polices, have made a growing number folks the impression that business is evil and that business owes them something. I myself am self employed and new at that, as I didn't like the corporate world anymore after over 20 years. But I don't bash Walmart or Corporate America, I just decided to go it on my own, to see if I could make a better life and better living. I get no benefits, except what I work and pay for, and my paycheck is the amount of business I work hard enough to get. Walmart or any other corporation is not their mommy, no matter what some would have you believe.

Unless I misunderstood, the Constitution says the "Right" to pursue happiness. I don't remember it saying we have the "Entitlement".
Reply:I love the WALLY MART!!!!! I shop there because the prices are lower and it saves my time because I'm not driving all over the place. Even in when we vacation in Acapulco , Mexico I shop at the local Wal Mart where you can even buy all your liquor and sightseeing tour tickets. I don’t feel bad at all for shopping at Wal Mart but every one has a cause and for some it’s stopping Wal Mart.

I really do understand why people want to stop the Wal Mart bulldozer but until I am offered a viable alternative I will keep shopping there. It’s the same as telling me that I should walk to work because my car is causing pollution. I know my car is causing pollution but I work 20 miles away and public transportation is not a viable alternative.
Reply:I don't feel guilty at all! It's my money, my earnings. You are right-they are extrememly underpaid!
Reply:Competition always works and keeps prices lower for everyone. Your friends who won't shop there are basically socialists, while you are a capitalist. Walmart employs thousands of people all over the country providing decent wages for the level of work done.
Reply:No I don't feel guilty at all for paying LESS by shopping at Wal-Mart. That's what I call wisdom.

Are shopping totes really better for the environment than brown paper or plastic bags?

With all the craze of celebrities using shopping totes and retail clothing stores that supply them, are shopping totes better for the environment? I've looked at these "This is not a plastic bag" totes and I wonder "Aren't these too made of non-environment friendly materials? If say, one of these shopping totes lasts me a year, how much damage does making this bag do to the environment, versus the damage a year's worth of plastic bags from the grocery store do to the environment?

Are shopping totes really better for the environment than brown paper or plastic bags?
Good point. If you recycle your plastic bags, that should be just as good as using a tote, right?
Reply:yes they are
Reply:The plastic bag has to go to the dump and never completely decompose even after you recycle it, the tote made of natural fiber; will redily decompose.
Reply:A good quality "shopping tote" should last you much longer than a year, especially if you repair it in the off chance that it should break. You can also use other multi use bags than just the newly popular totes. Backpacks make good bags for small trips. By using reusable bags for shopping, you also have the option of buying used, making your own out of scrap fabric, or using organic cotton...all of which are better than constant consumption of either paper or plastic single use bags.
Reply:I'm not sure where these "totes" are coming from or how much noxious gas is put in the air during production...

I usually fuse old grocery bags together, sew them up and make my own tote bags... This way I am pretty sure it's better for the environment.
Reply:A good heavy duty cotton tote should last a a long time, if it's only lasting a year it was probably a cheap piece of garbage from China.
Reply:Totes are for a long time use. Brown bags are friendly and are reusable for different new use of paper. Plastic last for ever and barely decay. Best to avoid plastic.
Reply:In the mantra Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, they are listed in that order for a reason. If you use a re-usable bag, you are reducing the amount of disposable bags, as well as reusing the same bag over and over, Then, after you have used your re-usable bag for years and years and it's time has come, you can recycle it. Disposable plastic shopping bags really are horrible and are actually being banned in some parts of the world. Besides the fact that plastic takes millions of years to decompose, the use vast amounts of oil to produce, pollution is created when the bags are made, and the energy it takes to deliver and ship these bags to the stores causes more emissions that contribute to global warming. Also, a large amount of plastic bags become litter, then drift to sea. There, many animals, especially turtles, mistake the bags for jellyfish, eat them and choke and die.

I love my reusable bags and keep them in my car and near the front door so I don't forget to bring them to the store!
Reply:Paper, Plastic, or Canvas??

Paper, Plastic or Canvas??? This is a question we face with every trip to a store but what is the Best choice? It is easy to say that a reusable canvas tote is the best choice but is it really the best choice? Actual carbon-footprints vary depending on the sources of the bags. Recycled plastic bags are showing up in many markets. Most paper bags are post-consumer recycled paper (not usually from "trees" directly.) Canvas tote bags are costly(compared to plastic or paper) and are mostly made in China under questionable working conditions. When we add up the materials(new canvas), the construction(underpaid workers in bad working conditions), add a huge PLASTIC graphic on the side and shipping across the world, then canvas tote bags get very expensive for the environment and for humans.

To be the MOST eco-friendly, just re-use the bags you already have and save the environmental expense of making new tote bags. Double or triple the old plastic bags and double up on paper bags and they will last through a hundred shopping trips. Or, you could re-use a pair of old jeans and make a tote that will last as long as you do.

At the very least look for bags made of re-used materials (Canvas from sails or denim from old jeans maybe) by someone in your neighborhood.

Beware of any eco-friendly ideas that require the purchase of a new item! Every new item including tote bags require a manufacturing process that adds to the over all problem. Right now, being green is a fad that inspires people to buy more, more, more....in the future being green will mean buy less, use less, and use what you have until it is worn out. When you buy stuff you are feeding the FAD...when you actually start re-using what you already have then you are MAKING A DIFFERENCE!

BTW, I got my Free Tote Bag from Yahoo Answers and it arrived in a PLASTIC BAG and has a huge plastic graphic on the side and it is "Made in India"!
Reply:Yes...why? Because plastic comes from trees, and the more plastic we use, the less trees we cut down. And, plastic bags blow freely and get caught in trees and stuff.
Reply:Permaculture Answer:

The Short Answer YES use re-useable tote or any other bags. It is a green issue, not a fashion statement. If you already have any old tote bags, rucksacks etc, no matter what they are made of, that will carry shopping use these. Using what you have is by far the greenest option. Use them to their death, it is even greener. Check your cupboards and use what you have first.

The Reasons Why?: Or The Long Answer

The scale of the use of plastic is a major environmental problem. Plastic production is highly unsustainable, presuming that we are talking about the oil based plastics and not the new bio-starch products. Plastic carrier bags are ephemeral so they are quickly disposed of. The chances are that the bag will end up in landfill after one use.

Plastic Bags: There are a lot of reasons given why people 'like' plastic bags. However, they still never decompose no matter how many times you use them. This is compounded when people tie their rubbish into plastic bags and thousands of other such filled plastic bags are piled on top of each other iin landfill sites. So if you must use plastic, re-use as many times as possible then take them supermarket to be recycled.

Biodegradeable Bags/Bioplastics: Polylactic acid (PLA) a biodegradable polymer derived from lactic acid. These vegetable based bioplastics biodegrades quickly under composting conditions and does not leave toxic residue. However, bioplastic have own environmental impacts caused by manufacturing and disposal of end product. Charges will be levied for plastics and bioplastics as the Government are having to pay landfill penalties. You will be charged for these impacts and taxed but on the plus side biodegradable bags (from potato and corn starches) are a new thriving industry

Paper Bags. Great if singly composted. In land fill can take years for layers to decompose. Still an organic material. But there is cost of production, costs to environment of pulp trees (monocultures, loss of habitat, etc) costs of recycling/disposal. Again you will have to pay for these production costs and disposal costs and taxed.

Recycle the cardboard boxes at the store to carry your groceries home or just pack into the boot of your car without bags and then carry in from the boot.

France is banning plastic bags 2007 others are moving towards it. The most effective is taxing plastic bag use. If we do not take action we will be taxed as the Irish are for using plastic bags. Effective as a decrease of 90% plastic bag use in Ireland.

http://www.voanews.com/english/archive/2...

Whilst cotton bag production is also unsustainable it is generally used many many more times, generally for a number of years. And are not non-biodegradable. People do not tend to tie their other rubbish into a cloth bag to send it to landfill. Cotton bags will compost in any home composter. Therefore a reused bag made of cloth clearly does not have the same detrimental effect on the environment as a reused bag made of plastic (or many). The environmental impact of plastic bag disposal is magnified because of the number of the bags that are used.

Willow is highly sustainable, from willow coppice and returns to the ground without trace. A wicker basket would be the obvious thing, to cut down on this massive use on single-use plastic carrier bags. Willow can be grown on sewage outfall which as we know is an environmental pollutant. There are no ENVIRONMENTAL costs of processing/production of a willow basket. It is a local economy that does not use heat, beat or treat. It could be grown in the supermarket car park dealing with the waste from the toilet block. In Permaculture we call this zoning and edge. It also demonstrates redundancy of function when used in sewage treatment. Willow is highly sustainable, from willow coppice and returns to the ground without trace.

Perhaps the best solution is to LIMIT YOUR CONSUMPTION OF EVERYTHING.

Think about what you are buying first and how the packaging will be disposed of:

Use your local butcher who will wrap in paper.

Buy fruit and vegetables from local growers it supports your local economy. There are usually lots of recycled cardboard boxes at Farmer's markets.

Buy from the local baker wraps in paper.

Buy milk in glass bottles or recyclable plastic.

Avoid pre packed foods and processed foods. The packaging is excessive.

Ensure you recycle metals, plastics, glass and cardboard.

Compost green waste.

There will be hardly anything left to go to landfill.

Manchester Shopping Center?

I think Manchester Shopping Center is brilliant..I moved here 3 yrs ago now and when i lived in Scarborough and Surrey..they can't compete for the clothes shops and the night life is Brilliant too..Whats the best place to shop in you're opinion based on the amount of choice you have..Apart from London i can't think of anywhere better..The Arndale is Huge and then theres the Trafford Center

Manchester Shopping Center?
Arndale and the shops off Market street (right upto Deansgate) is an excellent choice, mainly coz its right in the middle of the City. King Street is pretty good either, but it has many more high-end shops.

Trafford is huge and you'll get a lot, ditto with Lowry, but those are a bit far.

For some good bargains look at Aflecks Place. Its just off Piccadilly Gardens.
Reply:I totally agree with you, I love King Street to see all the wide range of clothes they have too.
Reply:I like the Trafford Center better than the Arndale... but the Lowry Center is good as well.
