Well, perhaps your feeling rushed. Try setting aside a whole day for shopping so you don't feel so constricted for time.
Also, try to shop alone, that's how I do it best! There's no one else there to say 'hurry up' or 'you take forever'.
Just call your mom when your done to pick you up

Reply:Well, if you're asking about how to slim down on how much you buy, I can suggest some things since I'm the kind of person who only ever buys something 1/10 of the time I shop.
#1 make sure you buy quality items, especially in terms of material - that way they'll last longer and ensure that you're probably getting something that's more worth your money.
#2 ask yourself if you already have something awfully similar in your closet - I think sometimes people might have too much of the same thing, like I'll want to buy a skirt, but my friend'll tell me it looks like it's the same style as a lot of other skirts I have, so maybe trying for another kind might make a more varied closet
#3 decide whether you REALLY REALLY like it - oftentimes I'll pass something by, and it's just nice looking. I try it on, I sort of like it, but I'm not sure if I should get it. I think that doubt sometimes means you shouldn't get it because you're not 100% confident that that clothing is meant for you and that you totally like it.
#4 try not to spend too much - sometimes things can be quite pricey, and it might just be more worthwhile to wait 'til it goes on sale or something. I'm sure there's a way you can track it or check up on it to see when it'll be less pricey.

Christmas shopping?
Ok Now last year I did the whole Day after Thanksgiving sale shopping..I was at walmart at like 4am..Will I ever do this again--NO WAY..What a mess. So my question is this...Who is gonna do the whole sale shopping thing? where will you go and how long will you shop all day or just a few hours? How much to you anticipate you will spend the day after Thanksgiving?

Christmas shopping in London is hideous. Crap and expensive parking, crowded and unreliable public transport, muggers lurking in dark corners to pinch your cash and prezzies, thousands of tourists (god bless 'em), and a massive punch up when you do manage to fight your way into a shop.
I did go to Manhattan for the true Christmas shopping experience a few years ago, and it was pretty much the same.......but the novelty of being in New York made it a lot better.
I have two tips for Christmas shopping:
1. The "Bah Humbug" approach - buy every single present on-line and get it delivered pre-wrapped. Costs a little more, but balances out against the cost of travel, parking, medical fees, etc.
2. The Exotic Christmas Market approach - we have started going to places like Brussels (Belgium), Cologne (Germany) etc where there are Christmas markets. You can buy some cheap old tat for very little money but, because its come from a different country, people will think you've gone to a great effort to buy them something special

Annoying shopping experience?
Just wanna know what kind of annoying shopping experience people have had. Like the saleswoman who keeps following you while your browsing and you just want to ask her to stop following you because you want to shop at your own pace and leisure. Or the salesperson who's really bugging you to buy the product she's promoting and you really dont want to but feel bad about rejecting. Any annoying shopping experience to share? I'm sure us ladies have plenty of stories like that!

I find it more annoying when people bring their badly behaved kids along with them while they shop and I have to hear the child cry and throw little temper tantrums. The parents annoy me too, if they know their children are the bad, find someone to watch them, people want to shop in peace, not leave with a headache.

Reply:My annoying shopping experience was when I went to Saks 5th Avenue. The sales people hung around like vultures ready for their prey. As soon as I pulled out my wallet, three other people were asking if they could help me. When I caught the attention of one sales person, another girl said she saw me first. I kept telling the sales person that helped me if I she would ring me up and the girl pushed her aside and started ringing the items.
I said, "I'm sorry, but you just lost a customer", and walked out the door.

Reply:last weekend, i went to old navy... and the lady at the checkout counter asks me if i want to get ten percent off by getting a card.. so she hands me this paper to fill out and i'm filling it out and i come to social security number.. i don't know mine and i wouldn't want to give it out to her anway. well she keeps pushing it and says i can't get the card and the discount without putting down my social. she tells me to look at my driver's liscense, call someone who does know, she's just really pushing it even though i told her nevermind. then i get home and i find out it was for a credit card.. and i'm 16. she completely wasted my time.

And now this w-mart (which needs to move its location and expand) is re-modeling. No need to even go now. Hardly anything in there. Only necessities and in the larger quantities. I am sure it won't be much better when it is done.

Even when you say NO, they keep asking, saying, Oh you can save this much, or you can get this rebate......If I had wanted to put it on their credit card, I would have used it and not paid with anything else..

I think they should. Maybe I'll use a portable boat horn. Every time I go shopping I always get behind someone who thinks they are the only person in the world. I go left, they go left, I go right, they go right. They also like to park their cart in front of something they don't buy that I need. I know they don't do it on purpose %26amp; they are just oblivious to what's going on around them. I try shopping at different times %26amp; it's the same thing every time. I thought my timing was off so I started skipping a little bit here %26amp; there %26amp; even that didn't help. I prayed %26amp; that didn't work. I sent someone else shopping %26amp; they screwed up my order. I had it delivered %26amp; they screwed up my order. I asked the managers at the stores to make the aisles wider %26amp; they refused. I'm at my wits end. Maybe I'll get one of those bicycle horns or a bicycle bell. Anybody got any ideas? I like the boat horn idea myself. I'll bet that would wake em up! I'm losing a lot of time in a years period.

Especially when they meet someone they know and decide to have a long loud conversation in the middle of the aisle. And then when you say 'excuse me' they give you THAT look as if to say 'oh, what are you doing there? Cant you just go away? We are having a conversation here'.
It drives me crazy.
I think there should be advertisements on television about supermarket etiquette! Keep left (or right) depending what country you are in. Let people past. Dont block the aisle with the trolley while you are deciding which salsa to buy! These sorts of issues... need solving!
I love your boat horn idea though... maybe some flashing light 'indicators' too and brake lights, to let people know if you are going to stop and be there for a while!

First, they have to care that they are not the only one in the stores. These same people know where the horn is in their cars, but not the rear view mirror. Good luck in getting the companies who make the carts interested in your ideas.

Plan your aisle trips so when announcements of detainment and pursuit occur, it is on every other aisle that has you walking TOWARD the registers. In that case, everyone will move to the right to let a racing grocery cart policeman by to make a quick exit. Except you never exit. You just go down the next aisle cool and collected. This idea will get you out of the store 50% faster!

Online free shopping carts... which to use? What is the most secure? Which one can I use Scripts with?
Ok, so I am finally trying to take advantage of my online shopping carts installed by bluehost. The problem is, I don't know anything about shopping carts... yet. Seems I have a choice between Zen Cart, Agora, oSCommerce, and CubeCart... So which is the most secure? How about the easiest? What I would really like to do is design or download PHP, ASP, JavaScripts, to use with the shopping cart. Which is the best for that? How about overall with security being the priority? Will any one in particular, (maybe all), allow someone to pay with a credit card then after that is done be able to automatically retrieve an encrypted key and e-mail it to that person? Or e-mail the person with a website link so that they can download something? Wow, the shopping cart world is the most interesting, I could however use a little guidence.

why is there this bizarre law that says i can go shopping on a sunday morning,but im not allowed to pay for my shopping till 11 oclock.i can go get a paper,use a supermarket or cafe,no problem,but certain shops have this wierd law imposed on them.are we mad?

There are all sorts of Sunday laws. It goes back to the puritans. Car dealerships are closed on Sundays here.

Reply:Hi, It all depends on the cubic footing of the shop, so a large supermarket or electrical store can only open for 6 hours on a Sunday. I am glad this is so, i don't work Sundays now but i used to and customers forget that workers have families that they like to be with.
Reply:There is a trading law that depicts when shops are allowed to trade between. In some shops it is between 10am - 4pm, others it is between 11am-5pm.
I work in a supermarket and it allows us to open the doors at 9.30 am,even though we are not allowed to start serving untill 10am.
The first half hour is to allow for 'browsing'. Even though we can not stop people filling their trollies ready.

Reply:Hi, It all depends on the cubic footing of the shop, so a large supermarket or electrical store can only open for 6 hours on a Sunday. I am glad this is so, i don't work Sundays now but i used to and customers forget that workers have families that they like to be with.

I am only 15, but I want to start a personal shopping service kinda thing. I was thinking about going to retirement homes and doing grocery shopping/clothing shopping for the elderly. Has anyone done this and is it a good idea? Also, if I do start this, how much should I charge?

IPod Shopping?
I am currently shopping for an iPod. The thing is I don't know where to start. All I know is that I want one of those regular iPods that have always been around, with the little screen that you use to look at the songs. I don't care how much space it has, seeing as 30 GBs is already good enough. The problem is idk where to shop for one. What is the average price that a customer should pay for a brand new 30 GB iPod and where would be the best place to shop for it, whether it be online or at a store?

Any ideas to attract local customers to use our shopping precinct rather than out of town big boy stores?
I have a childrens boutique in a small village type shopping precinct. There are many types of shops from butcher, baker, greengrocer, craft shop, locksmith, fresh fish, cafes, bookmakers, hairdressers, beauty salon, dry cleaners, shoe shop, photographic shop, pubs, charity shop, ladies fashion, hardware, pet shop, jewellers, clock repairer, dolls house shop, insurance broker, toy shop, chiropodist, newsagents, independant supermarket and co-op.
We are all getting together next week to discuss ways of improving customer footfall through our pedestranised precinct - rather than people using out of town stores. Also, ways of attracting people outside of the area. However, we have a low budget to spend. Any fresh ideas for me to take along to the meeting would be much appreciated.
Point to note - over the road - we also have post office, major banks, travel agents two top tourist attractions and a beach less than one mile away.

I'll use bike stores as an example.
At a good bike shop, the bikes are much more expensive than at the box stores, but they are of MUCH higher quality. You will also likely find many services complementing your purchase, as well, such as bike fitting (muy importante), riding advice, and a real mechanic onsite.
This sort of service keeps the bike shops alive, when it's easy enough to 'save' money on a crap-mart bike that'll end up gathering dust in the garage.
There'll be plenty of added-value services you can imagine for any sort of business. It's just a matter of developing them to the extent that people will be attracted to the stores, and advertising, then charging a fair price instead of greedily going for the 'boutique' prices on everything.

Card would be advertised in ALL participating store windows and could be promoted in other media as well. If oyu could enroll a local printer in the program you might then be able to get cards printed at a discount. Good Luck!

Offer some incentives to purchase e.g a money of card giving a small discount. Good luck in generating new ideas. It is my experience that major banks are often prepared to invest some money in ventures like this if you approach them.

Hi. I want to go shopping to Abercrombie %26amp; Fitch but im latino and my accent is not so good (its not horrible either.)
1)Will the employees of anf be friendly and helpful?
2)How loud is the music really, because I've heard its REALLY loud.

At our store, we almost always have an associate or manager who is fluent in Spanish. We have many Spanish-speaking customers, and we try to help them by making service available in Spanish.
Employees at A%26amp;F, like any retail store, are paid to be friendly and helpful-- these tactics are the only sensible way to sell clothing. I would recommend approaching the employee greeting you at the front, and telling them about your specific concerns. I'm sure they will be more than willing to help you find what you want.
The music is a preset level-- it's loud, but you don't have to yell to be heard. You can easily have a conversation with someone nearby at a normal level. Some stores really crank up the volume, but it's on a case-by-case basis. All the stores I've been to are at the preset.
As an employee, I've been taught to make myself available for any questions a customer might have. I greet customers coming into my room, and wait for any specific questions. I try not to hinder anyone's shopping experience. However, if anyone wants to try on clothes, get a different size/style, or get some personal shopping assistance, I help in any way I can. This is standard business for brand reps at A%26amp;F.
There should be at least one A%26amp;F associate in every room, plus at the fitting rooms and cash register, waiting to help you. Everyone is hired on the basis of being approachable and friendly, so don't be afraid to ask questions.
Unfortunately, not everyone is super nice and helpful. But I think by any large the people you'll meet will try to make a positive shopping experience for you. I've shopped at probably 2 dozen different A%26amp;F stores and I've yet to have an unpleasant memory in store.

The music isn't THAT loud, well to me it isn't. but it depends on the person and the store. I usually shun out all the music and just enjoy my time browsing.
The employees will let you do it alone, but if you need help with sizes or anything, they will help.

As an employee, I've been taught to make myself available for any questions a customer might have. I greet customers coming into my room, and wait for any specific questions. I try not to hinder anyone's shopping experience. However, if anyone wants to try on clothes, get a different size/style, or get some personal shopping assistance, I help in any way I can. This is standard business for brand reps at A%26amp;F.
There should be at least one A%26amp;F associate in every room, plus at the fitting rooms and cash register, waiting to help you. Everyone is hired on the basis of being approachable and friendly, so don't be afraid to ask questions.
Unfortunately, not everyone is super nice and helpful. But I think by any large the people you'll meet will try to make a positive shopping experience for you. I've shopped at probably 2 dozen different A%26amp;F stores and I've yet to have an unpleasant memory in store.

Reply:When you walk in the store, one of the employees will say hi, and ask you if you need any help finding anything. So they are pretty friendly.
The music isn't THAT loud, well to me it isn't. but it depends on the person and the store. I usually shun out all the music and just enjoy my time browsing.
The employees will let you do it alone, but if you need help with sizes or anything, they will help.

Went to Mornington today and actually found a great little store with friendly, actually helpul, staff with such different little things to buy for that person who seems to have everything.

What about traffic signs in a shopping center, like STOP, or speed limits? Can the police enforce them if they are WITHIN the shopping center? This doesn't include ones that face onto a real street.

It would be nice if they were legal however there is nothing that can be enforced as far as crosswalks on private property.
The same goes for stop signs and speed limits unless they are for a residential facility, ie a complex of apartments that has the proper signs posted indicating speed limits and stop signs.
If you were struck by a vehicle on private property because you stepped out in front of the vehicle without due care it would be your fault. However if the driver had more than adequate space and time to see you it would be the drivers fault.

I am interested in doing this part-time; knowing that I won't really make money. Are there mystery shopping companies other than those that specialize in restaurant shops? How can I tell a good mystery shop company from a bad one? Please share your experiences.

I did mystery shopping for about 3 years, but I stopped over 2 years ago, so I am sorry to report I don't remember the names of the better companies I worked for.
I never did a restaurant shop, although they were offered to me. I am not certain, but I think companies share lists of shoppers, because I would get emails with offers of work from companies I had never heard of before. The reason I never did a restaurant shop is because the ones I was offered only paid for the food, they didn't pay you for doing the actual shop.
The companies I worked for all paid for the shop, and then paid reimbursement for any items I was required to buy, and I think that's one way you can tell a good company from a bad one. Here are some other observations.
1. A good company, as stated above, pays you for your time, and they reimburse any charges such as parking, or purchases that you are asked to make. Also, if there are big charges, they handle those themselves. I worked for one company that did the shops for a lot of the snack bars, magazine stands, and little shops at our airport. Since it was after 9/11, and you had to have a boarding pass to get past security, I had to have an airport security screening which included being fingerprinted and having a comprehensive background check. The cost for that was $250, and I didn't pay a penny for it. The company arranged it all in advance, and I just went and filled out the papers, gave my fingerprints, and had my picture taken.
2. They keep in touch with you, and know who you are. My contacts at various companies always knew my name, knew which shops I had done recently, and which shops I was good at.
3. The work is steady. By steady I mean at least several offers a month, usually averaging out to one per week.
4. If there's an emergency shop, meaning that the person who was supposed to do it suddenly couldn't, and you got the offer at the last minute, they kick in extra money for the inconvenience.
5. They never, ever charge you money up front for anything. They don't ask you to pay $25 for access to the database of shops, etc.
When I was shopping, I found several websites that allowed you to apply to more than one company at a time. I bit the bullet, as the applications were quite long, and over a period of a few days I applied at about 15 different companies. Out of those 15 applications, I received jobs from about 12 different companies. I decided it is best to work for as many companies as possible, as that keeps you busier and brings in more money. Usually, when a job is offered, they give you a window in which to do it, so I would just schedule all my shops for one day, and go out and do 4 or 5 on one day, and that would be it for the week. You might try searching for similar sites.

I've seen so many young girls shopping with their dad at my clothing store. I was just wondering how does it feel? And do you like shopping with your mom or your dad better, and why? Reply:i don't remember when was the last time i had my dad gone shopping with me, but i guess may be i was very little when this happened. my dad is a doctor and he's always too much busy with people that he can hardly spend time with his family. i've been going to shop with my mom,sis,friends or alone for a long long time. dad has got us (his daughters) and my mom to shop for him.
i don't have any hard feeling for dad coz i know he's just very busy and he also misses the old times a lot, and he's happy with whatever we get for him. i don't get a chance to go shopping with dad but i think if i got it, it must be a memorable one coz dad is so friendly with me and its all fun being with him.

Reply:My daughters love it. Number 1 thing is that they can bat those puppy-dog eyes at Daddy and he gets them what they want, I'm a little stricter about the rules. They also love to go with their step-father, surprised me too. They will ask him if an outfit looks okay before they ask me, and take his opinion over mine 99% of the time. It is also great bonding time for them. Their Dad and Step-Dad also take the time to tell them why they think some clothing is inappropriate, from a male's point of view, how some clothes may make them be seen as something they are not.

He never approved of anything we bought. He saw no need to buy clothes because you could make them. He actually did buy it, but the expression on his face when I asked looked like I had just poured ice water down his back.

I went to Target and I saw this young girl there shopping for bras with her DAD!
I was like "wow."
Well, I go grocery shopping with my dad.
But he's more of the serious type.
Not the outgoing, funny type of dad.
I don't think it would be a problem shopping with your father.
But if you want fashion advice and bra shopping kinda person rather than a tag-along person, you'd be best to go with your mom.
And if you don't have a mom to go shopping with, i'm sure you're aunt would love to take you shopping.
And if you don't have an aunt, then your friends would be a great substitute.

I dont think it really matters since the internet is global, and time zones are different. I guess as long as its convenient for you to shop, then its good. I personally shop in any time of the day. Be careful with the scams! Some people like using a seperate credit card strickly for online use, so they dont get their whole bank account stripped from them. :)

I am a college student (Junior) who once was declared "best-dressed" in high school. Well, my parents slowly cut me off and I work off and on to support myself. After I pay bills, get groceries, and get gas, I don't have enough money to even look at the mall! I go shopping every blue moon and I'm on tight budget so I usually get the simple cheap blue jeans, white shirts, and black slip-ons. I know shopping shouldn't be on my mind cause I'm a student, but I would like to sometimes wear the latest fashions while going to class and walking around campus. I'm 5'7, 132 pounds with a nice shape, and I'm tired of wearing t-shirts, jeans, and clogs. I will have a little money to go shopping in a couple of weeks ($ 150) :(

Since you're on a tight budget, make sure you're not wasting money on ridiculous styles that are bound to go out in a month or two. Try purchasing a few items that you really like that have been around a while so they won't be out of style, I guess. Go for a few pretty accessories or whatever... There's a lot to choose from...

Do You feel guilty for shopping at Walmart?
I have a lot of friends who refuse to shop there, mainly because they are a big corporation that ends up putting a lot of the little guys out of business by always having the lowest price. Others don't like the way they pay so little to their workers. Personally, I shop there because I can literally save about 35% on my grocery bills by choosing them over the local grocers. Inflation has not kept up with the standards of living, and by shopping there, I get excellent value for my HARD EARNED money -- and I feel that if the workers there don't like getting paid low wages, they should look elsewhere for a job. It is still a free country, so if you object, go try getting a job somewhere else that pays better, don't blame Walmart for your lack of education or marketability. Just my opinion, I am not considered a "liberal" person, but it ticks me off to hear people low rating those who shop there. Some of us shop there because we can't AFFORD to shop at the other places!!!!

I just hope that you're happy to cough up the extra money in the end, because as soon as they manage to put their competition out of business in your area, they'll jack up their prices to make the old competition look generous by comparison.
That's the part they don't tell you while you're jumping on the "screw the competition" bandwagon. They are ARTIFICIALLY lowering the prices in a given store, based on the local competition (subsidized by the regular prices in 90% of their other stores), with the express purpose of putting their competition out of business. Once they do, there will no longer be a reason to subsidize that store and you'll start seeing prices rise.
Frankly, I'm surprised that the government hasn't come after them for price-fixing.
But hey, that's not YOUR problem, right?

Reply:Up until a few years ago I didn't shop the cut rate places but then I started shopping K-mart and when they closed I began at Walmart. I think Walmart is great. I see the same clothes in there that are in the catalogs (except if I shop Walmart I don't have to pay shipping and handling). I usually use a credit card when I shop at Walmart but I figure that some day the prices will go up and I won't be able to get all I need then, and I'm willing to pay interest just to get it now. I don't wear out my clothes so I figure I'll make out. If I can buy material there and sew something for myself I still make out. I haven't purchased food there yet, but, thanks for the tip.
Reply:i could give a rats azz about them putting the little guy out of business, the little guy needs to adapt to the needs of consumers or face the end. I do feel a little bad for the way walmarts employees get shorted on healthcare, but like you said its their choice to work there or not. I have found myself going to target a lot more recently though, i find it a much nicer store and they treat their employees very well.
Reply:yes, i do feel guilty about shopping there, for all the reasons you've listed... however, Costco often times matches or beats the walmart prices (for example: my iPod video costed less at Costco) and they do so much for the community (at least, where i live)
..... i also recieved an email a while ago discussing the cost of medication in pharmicies.... it said that there were many large companies that raised the prices so much that the made over 3,000% (three thousand) profit...... but at the end of the email it said that Costco sells them for much less (i don't remember the exact numbers, but i think it was only like 5-10% profit or something like that?)
anyway, i do shop at walmart, but, like i said before, Costco can often beat them in prices, and almost always (90+% of the time) beats them in quality.
Reply:Great businesses--those that save you significant time, money or energy and/or offer a very valuable product/service--always put other companies out of business. That's capitalism. It's that competition that drives people (companies) to constantly innovate, evolve, and create/demand better products and services. And as a society we're much better off for it.
And as far as pay goes, Wal Mart is like McDonald's and dozens of other companies just like them--you're not supposed to make a career out of working there (unless you're in upper management or an exec). They provide solid jobs and good experience for young, inexperienced workers. They expect to have high turnover and re-hire a whole new workforce every few years. No one expects you to be able to work as a cashier at Wal Mart and live rich. Just like no one expects you to work at any other minimum wage job and live rich--but you don't here anyone bashing any other companies with a large low-paid workforce (and there are thousands--think of every grocery store, pharmacy, restaurant, factory, etc). The big successful companies are always the targets though. Like you deserve a $80,000 salary and benefits just for showing up and being a greeter/cashier at WalMart. Sorry, but that just isn't realistic.
Plus Wal Mart does good things too. Them promoting halogen light bulbs for one year is causing the equivalent of taking 1,000,000 cars off the road forever. Them switching to solar power and hybrid trucks can single-handedly change the environment for the better--overnight. It's an incredible amount of power, but they're being held accountable by the public and using it for good more and more.
If they were really a horrible employer, no one would work there. If they had terrible service/products, no one would shop there.

I am all for a free market, but they manipulate their suppliers, then cause companies to close or go overseas because Wal-Mart insists on paying less for the same products. Reply:I love the WALLY MART!!!!! I shop there because the prices are lower and it saves my time because I'm not driving all over the place. Even in when we vacation in Acapulco , Mexico I shop at the local Wal Mart where you can even buy all your liquor and sightseeing tour tickets. I don’t feel bad at all for shopping at Wal Mart but every one has a cause and for some it’s stopping Wal Mart.
I really do understand why people want to stop the Wal Mart bulldozer but until I am offered a viable alternative I will keep shopping there. It’s the same as telling me that I should walk to work because my car is causing pollution. It's your money, you can shop wherever you like.
I just hope that you're happy to cough up the extra money in the end, because as soon as they manage to put their competition out of business in your area, they'll jack up their prices to make the old competition look generous by comparison.
That's the part they don't tell you while you're jumping on the "screw the competition" bandwagon. They are ARTIFICIALLY lowering the prices in a given store, based on the local competition (subsidized by the regular prices in 90% of their other stores), with the express purpose of putting their competition out of business. Once they do, there will no longer be a reason to subsidize that store and you'll start seeing prices rise.
Frankly, I'm surprised that the government hasn't come after them for price-fixing.
But hey, that's not YOUR problem, right?

Reply:Up until a few years ago I didn't shop the cut rate places but then I started shopping K-mart and when they closed I began at Walmart. I think Walmart is great. I see the same clothes in there that are in the catalogs (except if I shop Walmart I don't have to pay shipping and handling). I usually use a credit card when I shop at Walmart but I figure that some day the prices will go up and I won't be able to get all I need then, and I'm willing to pay interest just to get it now. I don't wear out my clothes so I figure I'll make out. If I can buy material there and sew something for myself I still make out. I haven't purchased food there yet, but, thanks for the tip.

I do feel a little bad for the way walmarts employees get shorted on healthcare, but like you said its their choice to work there or not. I have found myself going to target a lot more recently though, i find it a much nicer store and they treat their employees very well.
Reply:yes, i do feel guilty about shopping there, for all the reasons you've listed... however, Costco often times matches or beats the walmart prices (for example: my iPod video costed less at Costco) and they do so much for the community (at least, where i live)
..... i also recieved an email a while ago discussing the cost of medication in pharmicies.... it said that there were many large companies that raised the prices so much that the made over 3,000% (three thousand) profit...... but at the end of the email it said that Costco sells them for much less (i don't remember the exact numbers, but i think it was only like 5-10% profit or something like that?)
anyway, i do shop at walmart, but, like i said before, Costco can often beat them in prices, and almost always (90+% of the time) beats them in quality.

It's that competition that drives people (companies) to constantly innovate, evolve, and create/demand better products and services. And as a society we're much better off for it.
And as far as pay goes, Wal Mart is like McDonald's and dozens of other companies just like them--you're not supposed to make a career out of working there (unless you're in upper management or an exec). They provide solid jobs and good experience for young, inexperienced workers. They expect to have high turnover and re-hire a whole new workforce every few years. No one expects you to be able to work as a cashier at Wal Mart and live rich. Just like no one expects you to work at any other minimum wage job and live rich--but you don't here anyone bashing any other companies with a large low-paid workforce (and there are thousands--think of every grocery store, pharmacy, restaurant, factory, etc). The big successful companies are always the targets though. Like you deserve a $80,000 salary and benefits just for showing up and being a greeter/cashier at WalMart. Sorry, but that just isn't realistic.
Plus Wal Mart does good things too. Them promoting halogen light bulbs for one year is causing the equivalent of taking 1,000,000 cars off the road forever. Them switching to solar power and hybrid trucks can single-handedly change the environment for the better--overnight. It's an incredible amount of power, but they're being held accountable by the public and using it for good more and more.
If they were really a horrible employer, no one would work there. If they had terrible service/products, no one would shop there.

I am all for a free market, but they manipulate their suppliers, then cause companies to close or go overseas because Wal-Mart insists on paying less for the same products. Even in when we vacation in Acapulco , Mexico I shop at the local Wal Mart where you can even buy all your liquor and sightseeing tour tickets. I really do understand why people want to stop the Wal Mart bulldozer but until I am offered a viable alternative I will keep shopping there. Are shopping totes really better for the environment than brown paper or plastic bags?
With all the craze of celebrities using shopping totes and retail clothing stores that supply them, are shopping totes better for the environment? I've looked at these "This is not a plastic bag" totes and I wonder "Aren't these too made of non-environment friendly materials? If say, one of these shopping totes lasts me a year, how much damage does making this bag do to the environment, versus the damage a year's worth of plastic bags from the grocery store do to the environment?

Or, you could re-use a pair of old jeans and make a tote that will last as long as you do.
At the very least look for bags made of re-used materials (Canvas from sails or denim from old jeans maybe) by someone in your neighborhood.
Beware of any eco-friendly ideas that require the purchase of a new item! Every new item including tote bags require a manufacturing process that adds to the over all problem. Right now, being green is a fad that inspires people to buy more, more, more....in the future being green will mean buy less, use less, and use what you have until it is worn out. It could be grown in the supermarket car park dealing with the waste from the toilet block. In Permaculture we call this zoning and edge. It also demonstrates redundancy of function when used in sewage treatment. Willow is highly sustainable, from willow coppice and returns to the ground without trace.
Perhaps the best solution is to LIMIT YOUR CONSUMPTION OF EVERYTHING.

Manchester Shopping Center?
I think Manchester Shopping Center is brilliant..I moved here 3 yrs ago now and when i lived in Scarborough and Surrey..they can't compete for the clothes shops and the night life is Brilliant too..Whats the best place to shop in you're opinion based on the amount of choice you have..Apart from London i can't think of anywhere better..The Arndale is Huge and then theres the Trafford Center
Manchester Shopping Center?
Arndale and the shops off Market street (right upto Deansgate) is an excellent choice, mainly coz its right in the middle of the City. King Street is pretty good either, but it has many more high-end shops.
Trafford is huge and you'll get a lot, ditto with Lowry, but those are a bit far.
For some good bargains look at Aflecks Place. Its just off Piccadilly Gardens.

I am doing a project on shopping festivals in Dubai and I like to know what real people think about our shopping malls and shopping festival?, what else can be done to make them better?'what are the disadvantages an advantages of our big shopping malls and festivals? and also what are your favourite brands and favourite shopping malls?
What do you think about shopping malls and shopping festivals in Dubai?
I Feel That Dubai Now Has A Sufficent No:of Shooping Malls, But Majority Of Them Cater To The Deep Pockets Of The Nationals And A Handful Of Indiviuals. During The Festival Season No:Of Shopping Malls Come Up With Exciting Offers, Schemes %26amp; Their World Famous Discounts, Some Of Them Are Genuine, Some Are Just Publicity Stunts, I Have Seen A No:of Brands with good Offers Like JVC, Splash, Shoe Mart, among others...
The Best Place To Shop Would Be The Mall Of The Emirates, I Feel It Has Everything Under One Huge Roof..

My favourite mall is is Mall of Emirates. City Centre is good as well.
During shopping festival I always go to Global Village as you can buy much staff with good price.
My favourite brands are- Zara, Cotton Life, Guess, Tommy Lee, Promode

Great malls, lovely festival, they really work hard to make it work, I love Ibn Batuta mall, it is my favorite.
Reply:im from UAE local, a citizen , and what you mentioned brings more and more people to UAE , emigrants and visitors, god knows till when this crowd will remain , especially in dubai , they are facing a real problem .
but my guess for the future i think it will be better after the completion of the (metro) Subways , underground train, i believe that Dubai will enter a golden era by then ... whom knows??!!!
