Shopping in Sri Lanka?

Hi,


Im from India %26amp; planning to visit Sri Lanka sometime next month.





Could anyone please tell me what the shopping scene's like in Sri Lanka (in terms of clothes, fake brands etc etc)


Is it similar to Bangkok? Is it as cheap as Bangkok?


What are the main shopping areas? (Do they have only shopping malls or street shopping as well like in Bangkok)

Shopping in Sri Lanka?
Hi, I have visited Sri Lanka many times when I was working, and being female of course interested in the shopping. Well I am afraid that you are going to be disappointed, nothing like Bangkok, there is one great store you should visit - take a tuktuk to Odel [they have their own brand and I am still wearing some of the Tshirts I bought there 5 years ago], it is very well known and good quality. There are a few more local stores and a couple of shopping centres but I did not enjoy them much, not really what I would call bargains.





The only area I would call street shopping is on Main Street, down by the docks, it is the old centre of town and there are small shops and open stalls there. It is like many asian countries where the streets are designated to certain items, i.e. electrical goods are all on one street in this area. Have not seen any fake brands sold there but really I didn't trust them to know if they were real or not.

Reply:Yes Odel is one of the popular ones, but there are many more. Odel tends to be a bit more over priced compared to the others, but their quality is usually slight better, most times.

Reply:The best place to shop in Colombo is Odel. It's a big dept store with original content and some cheap branded goods
Reply:Yes ria you can buy everything in sri lanka for very cheap prize (clothes, electric goods, fansy things, etc) it is easy to shopping in sri lanka because all the major shopping areas are located in colombo. but dont look for big shopping centers, they cost too much. if u want more plz e mail me, i do what i can do for you.
