BASIC shopping cart question?
i don't recommend any particular shopping cart program. i used to sell one of my own making but it is old an outdated. however, to receive money, you need to also have a credit card processor. there are a number of ways to do this. paypal is a popular one and provides a full shopping cart solution. i have recently started using cybersource as they take almost any payment method and provide me with a number of solutions to offer my clients. i think they also can provide you with shopping cart solutions.
Reply:First things first. You DO need a shopping cart! The next thing you will need is a merchant account. Some companies offer both.

What ever you do make sure you find someone that will help you set up your shopping cart.

If you built your site yourself, there is a great solution for you. You tell this program what you are selling, how much you want to charge, and it creates a code that can be copied and pasted into your site building program in order to create the "Buy Button".

It works great for us, easy to set up:

Click on the eprocessing button in the middle of the page.

Good Luck!
Reply:Sites like PayPal are the easiest way to get into this. Applying for a merchant account is costly and the contracts have terrible terms and per-transaction fees for "small timers".
Reply:You can NOT take money by credit card, you would need to be a registered credit transaction site, you will not get this. You need an arrangement with a recognised credit organisation, they will need to run credit checks on you before they accept your transactions. They also charge quite heavily for this. You must not take any details of the card, bank or anything else that may be used for identity theft. You need to pass the order information to the credit agent by redirecting the browser. The agent will have a secure site, and will tell you what information they want your re-direct to pass.
